Sealing pavers is a choice, not a rule we could find. New concrete pavers can show a white haze called efflorescence, which one paver maker calls cosmetic, temporary1. Ask for the sealer's data sheet and a dry-weather plan before you hire anyone.

Should you seal at all?

We found no Miami-Dade source that says pavers must be sealed. It is a choice about looks and upkeep. Decide what you want the sealer to do: change the color, resist stains, or both.

A South Florida stone seller says coral stone is natural limestone and coral, and should be sealed against stains and weather 2. That is a seller's claim, not a test, so ask for the spec sheet of the exact stone.

The white haze

A paver maker says efflorescence comes from lime in concrete pavers reacting with water and air, is not a defect, and fades once the available calcium is used up 1. It says frequent rain and sun may shorten it to weeks 1.

The same maker advises a paver cleaner, tested on a hidden spot first 1. Ask your installer whether to wait for the haze to clear before sealing.

Rain and timing

Ask for the sealer's data sheet and read what it says about a dry surface and about rain before and after application, before you set a date.

Questions people ask

Is it good to seal pavers in Florida?

It is a choice, and we found no rule that requires it. Decide what you want the sealer to do, then ask for the data sheet, a sample on a spare paver and a written dry-weather plan.

Which paver sealer should I choose?

We do not rank sealers. Choose the finish you want, then ask each installer which product they use and for its data sheet.

Can I seal pavers right after they are laid?

Ask first. New concrete pavers can show efflorescence, which the maker we cite says is temporary 1. Ask your installer and the sealer's data sheet when sealing is safe.
