Miami's rain, in numbers
These figures use NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Miami International Airport 1. Your block can differ from the airport.
- Yearly rain: 67.41 inches per year1 (our arithmetic: the 12 monthly normals added up).
- Days with rain: 141 days per year1 of at least 0.01 inch (our arithmetic).
- Wet season: 67 percent1 of the yearly rain falls from June to October (our arithmetic).
- Fewest rain days: 6.8 days per month (Jan-Apr)1. Summer months run well above that (our arithmetic).
What that means for timing
A long wet season leaves fewer sure dry days in summer. Winter and early spring have the fewest rain days, so ask your installer which weeks they plan to seal and what happens if rain arrives.
Ask for the sealer's data sheet and read what it says about a dry surface before and after application. We have not read the data sheets, so we do not quote hours.
A white haze is not always a flaw
New concrete pavers can show a white haze called efflorescence. One paver maker calls it cosmetic, temporary2, and says it fades once the available calcium is used up. Frequent rain and sun may shorten it to weeks.
The same maker says to clean it with a paver cleaner and to test a hidden spot first. Ask your installer whether to wait for the haze to clear before sealing.
Choosing a sealer
We do not rank sealers. Ask each installer these questions:
- Which finish will I get, a natural look or a wet look?
- What is the sealer meant to do: change color, resist stains, or both?
- How long before foot traffic and cars?
- When does the maker say to reseal, and who pays?
What to check for sealing
- Your pavers now. Age, color, haze and joint sand.
- The sealer. Ask for the product name and its data sheet in your written scope.
- The schedule. Ask for a dry-weather plan and a backup date.

Questions people ask
Is it good to seal pavers in Florida?
It is a choice, not a rule we could find. Sealing can change how pavers look, and the maker's data sheet says what a given sealer does. Weigh the finish you want, the cost and the rain-free time the sealer needs.
How often do pavers need resealing?
It depends on the sealer, so we give no number. The data sheet and the installer's written care advice should say. Ask for both before you sign.
