How it works

The Paver Plan Check and the guides are free to use.

  1. Run the Paver Plan Check. Pick your city and read the rules we found, each with its source and date.
  2. Call the offices it names. Have your address, photos and what is there now ready. We read the permit path for your city and tell you which offices to call.
  3. Review your permit path and ask for a written scope. Ask to see the offices, the papers, the base, the paver and the price in writing. Nothing should start until you agree.
  4. Decide, then follow the work. If you go ahead, ask the installer for photos of the base, the laying and the finish. We are not booking jobs yet. If you tell us about your project, we will let you know when a local installer is available.

Pick the job

  • Paver driveway. Replace or widen a driveway. The county also asks for a recorded covenant.
  • Paver patio. A new or replaced patio, with the building permit exemption explained.
  • Pool deck pavers. Pavers around a pool, and who does which work.
  • Paver sealing. Whether to seal, and how Miami rain sets the schedule.

What every paver job starts with

Every job that installs, replaces or expands pavers on a single-family or duplex lot goes through county drainage review. The county counts a paver as hard surface unless it passes its tests.

Your city may run its own review, but only if the County Director finds its rules at least as strict. So the first question for any address is which office reviews the lot. The permit path guide shows the dates and the sources.

Each service page below explains its own permit path, materials, base and cost method. Run the Paver Plan Check to see the rules we found for your city, then call the offices it names.

Not sure which job you need?

Start with what is there now and what you want to change. A cracked driveway points to the driveway page. A bare yard points to the patio page. A pool points to the pool deck page. Pavers that look dull or stained point to the sealing page.

Want a rough price range first? The Paver Cost Estimator covers patios, driveways and pool decks at ground level.

Questions people ask

Do all paver jobs need county review?

Jobs that install, replace or expand pavers on a single-family or duplex lot do. Sealing existing pavers is a different step, but ask your city and the county. The permit path guide lists the questions.

How much does each paver job cost?

Each service page shows a national range with its source and date, and a worked example that is our arithmetic. None of them is a Miami quote. The cost guide puts the ranges side by side.
