Pool deck pavers in Miami-Dade
Miami Paver Co. is a guide run by Terragroupe, LLC. We do not install anything and we are not booking jobs yet.
Pavers around a pool on a single-family or duplex lot in Miami-Dade need county drainage review, as other pavers do, and the review has applied since March 31, 2025 1. The county's exemption page does not name pool decks, and its concrete slab exemption leaves out pool slabs 2. Run the Paver Plan Check for your city, then call the offices it names.

County review and the pool deck question
The county counts pavers as hard surface unless they pass its tests 1. Pavers around a pool are pavers, so they count toward the hard surface the county reviews on a single-family or duplex lot. The review has applied since March 31, 2025 1. One listed way to meet the drainage standard is to keep part of the lot pervious. On a lot of 5,500 sq ft or less, that share is 20% 1. On a larger lot, it is 25% 1.
The building permit is a separate question. The county's exemption page lists open patios, walkways and pavers, but it does not name pool decks, and its concrete slab exemption leaves out pool slabs 2. Do not assume the exemption for open pavers, with its cap of $5,000 in any 12 months, covers a deck around a pool 2. Ask the building department.
We found only that county page. A city can differ, so ask your city too.
Who does which work
As of October 18, 2026
A pool deck sits beside other trades. Work on the pool shell, the pool's plumbing and its electrical equipment is licensed work. A licensed provider does it, not Miami Paver Co. Ask who handles any change to the coping, the drains or the bonding, and keep the paver scope and the pool scope on separate lines of the quote.
Paver laying has a different rule. Florida law names no state license category for driveway or paver installation3. That is research, not legal advice. If the deck sits over structure, or needs a retaining wall, ask whether a licensed scope applies. We have not confirmed the rule.
Travertine, coral stone or concrete pavers
- Travertine. A national guide puts it at 15-27 USD per sq ft installed (national)4, with the stone alone at $4 to $11 per sq ft 4.
- Other pavers. We found no recent guide that prices concrete pool deck pavers on their own, so ask the quote to name the paver and its thickness.
- Coral stone. A South Florida seller says coral stone stays cool underfoot in sun, grips because it is porous and should be sealed 5. Another seller lists its coral pavers as non-porous. The sellers disagree, so check the exact stone.
Heat and slip matter by a pool. We found no independent test for any of these materials, so treat seller claims as claims. Ask for the spec sheet. Then test a sample, barefoot, in the sun and when wet.
Drainage around the pool
Rain and splash water must go somewhere. The county rule asks that rain stay on your lot 1. Ask the installer where the deck drains lead and how the slope sends water away from the house.
Keep the pool's own drains and plumbing out of the paver scope. If a drain sits in the deck, ask who is responsible for it and put the answer in writing.
Permeable pavers have to pass the county tests to count as pervious. Read permeable pavers and Miami-Dade rules before you choose one for a deck.
What a pool deck costs
A national guide puts a travertine pool deck at roughly $9,000 to $16,200 4. It suggests about 20% extra for custom pool decks 4.
Our arithmetic: 600 sq ft times the travertine range, 15-27 USD per sq ft installed (national)4, is $9,000 to $16,200, the same as that guide's pool deck range. It is a yardstick, not a Miami quote. We have no Miami quotes yet.
Curves around the pool, steps, deck drains, the old deck coming out and sealing all change the price. Ask for each as its own line. We have no pool deck price for concrete pavers, so ask for the same area and base in every quote.
How a pool deck job goes
We do not lay pavers ourselves. Once an installer signs, this is the order a deck job should follow.
- Site review. Photos, your address, the pool edge and what the deck is made of now.
- Protection. The pool, the equipment and the coping are covered before work starts.
- Removal and base. The old deck comes out. The base goes in with a slope for drainage.
- Laying and cuts. Pavers go down and are cut to fit the pool edge.
- Joint sand and sealing. Joints are filled. Sealing follows if you chose it.
- Photos. You get photos of the base, the laying and the finish.
What is in writing
Until an installer signs, we cannot promise a workmanship term. When one does, it goes on this site and into your written scope. Ask what happens if a paver cracks or a joint washes out.
How it works
The Paver Plan Check and the guides are free to use.
- Run the Paver Plan Check. Pick your city and read the rules we found, each with its source and date.
- Call the offices it names. Have your address, photos and what is there now ready. We read the permit path for your city and tell you which offices to call.
- Review your permit path and ask for a written scope. Ask to see the offices, the papers, the base, the paver and the price in writing. Nothing should start until you agree.
- Decide, then follow the work. If you go ahead, ask the installer for photos of the base, the laying and the finish. We are not booking jobs yet. If you tell us about your project, we will let you know when a local installer is available.
What we don't handle
These jobs are outside what Miami Paver Co. can help with. If your project includes one of them, we can't take the job.
- roof
- retaining wall
- slab repair
- structural
- electrical
- drain
- mold
- waterproofing
- elevated deck
- balcony
What this site gives you now
This guide cuts the guesswork and the paperwork. You can learn the permit path and the paver system before you spend anything.
- A way to size up your site
Take photos of your site and note your address and what is there now. They help you see what the project involves and which paver system fits. - A permit path to follow
The Paver Plan Check lists the rules we could confirm for your city and the offices to call. Each rule names the page we read and shows its date. - A written scope and price to ask for
Ask any installer for a scope that lists base depth, compaction, edge restraint, drainage, paver, joint sand and sealing, with the price. Nothing should start until you say yes. - The right paver for the job
Concrete pavers, travertine or a permeable system. The guides help you match the choice to how you use the space and to what your city allows. - A photo habit
Take photos of the base, the laying and the finish, so you can see the work you paid for. - What to ask for in writing
Ask any installer to put the workmanship term in your written scope. We will publish an installer's term on this site if one signs.
This site is free to read. It sells no work and takes no payment. If the rules make pavers not worth the paperwork on your lot, the Plan Check and the guides will show it. Any work is agreed in writing between you and the installer who does it.

Questions people ask
Do I need a permit for pool deck pavers in Miami-Dade?
As of October 18, 2026
Ask your building department before you plan. County drainage review applies to pavers on single-family and duplex lots 1. The county's exemption page does not name pool decks, and its slab exemption leaves out pool slabs 2. Cities can differ.
Is travertine good for a pool deck?
National guides price travertine pool decks, so it is a known choice 4. We found no independent test on heat or slip. Ask for the spec sheet and test a sample.
Does coral stone stay cooler than other pavers?
A South Florida seller says coral stone stays cool underfoot in sun 5. That is a seller's claim, not a test. Another seller lists its coral pavers as non-porous, so check the spec sheet of the exact stone.
How much does a pool deck cost?
A national guide puts a travertine pool deck at roughly $9,000 to $16,200 4. That is not a Miami quote. Get a written price that names the area, the paver and the base.
Who handles work on the pool itself?
A licensed provider does that work. Pool shell, plumbing and electrical work are separate from paver laying. Keep them on separate lines of the quote.
